Republica Danga

John McLaughlin is 75 today ....born 4 January 1942, English guitarist, bandleader and composer, also known as Mahavishnu John McLaughlin. His music includes many genres of jazz which he coupled with elements of rock, Indian classical music, Western classical music, flamenco and blues to become one of the pioneering figures in fusion. After contributing to several key British groups of the early 1960s (playing with Alexis Korner, Georgie Fame, Graham Bond Organisation and Brian Auger), John McLaughlin made Extrapolation, his first album as a bandleader, in 1969. He then moved to the U.S., to play with Tony Williams' Lifetime and then with Miles Davis, on his electric jazz-fusion albums In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, A Tribute to Jack Johnson, and On the Corner. In 1971 he founded the first incarnation of Mahavishnu Orchestra, with Billy Cobham on drums, Rick Laird on bass guitar, Jan Hammer on electric and acoustic piano and synthesizer and Jerry Goodman on violin. They performed a technically complex style of music that fused electric jazz and rock with Indian influences. It was followed by other two incarnations and by many other bands having McLaughlin as a leader. He played among other with Santana few times, with Al Dimeola and Paco de Lucia, or with Trilok Gurtu. McLaughlin was ranked 49th in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".
RIP ...JOHN WETTON (12 June 1949 – 31 January 2017) was an English singer, bassist, and songwriter.[1] He was born in Willington, Derbyshire, and grew up in Bournemouth. He rose to fame with bands Mogul Thrash, Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, Uriah Heep, and Wishbone Ash.[1]
After his period with King Crimson, Wetton formed UK, and later he was the frontman and principal songwriter of the supergroup Asia,[1] which proved to be his biggest commercial success. Their self-titled debut album sold eight million copies worldwide and was Billboard magazine's No. 1 album of 1982. He later formed the duo Icon with Geoff Downes (ex-Yes, ex-Buggles), and since the 1990s had a successful solo career releasing a large number of studio and live albums.
Wetton had a long career as an in-demand session bass player, and collaborated with many members of progressive rock bands such as Yes (including Steve Howe, Bill Bruford, Geoff Downes, Alan White, Billy Sherwood and Peter Banks), Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry, and Genesis (Steve Hackett).
John Bonham a fost gasit mort in locuinta lui Jimmy Page. Motivul? Artistul a murit asfixiat.
Edward Lodewijk Van Halen January 26, 1955 – October 6, 2020
Eddie and his brother Alex formed a band in 1972. Two years later, the band changed its name to "Van Halen" and, at the same time, became a staple of the Los Angeles music scene while playing at well-known clubs like the Whisky a Go Go. In 1977, Warner Records offered Van Halen a recording contract.
The band won the 1992 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance with Vocals for the album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. In 2019, the band ranked 20th on the RIAA list of best-selling artists with 56 million album sales in the United States[28][29] and more than 80 million worldwide. Additionally, Van Halen charted 13 number-one hits in the history of Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart; meanwhile, VH1 ranked the band seventh on a list of the top 100 hard rock artists of all time[32] and, in 2007, Van Halen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Individually, Eddie received acclaim for his guitar work in the band.
