"Jerusalem" is an adaptation of Hubert Parry's hymn, with lyrics from "And did those feet in ancient time", a poem from the preface to William Blake's "Milton a Poem". Debuting on this track is the Moog Apollo, the first polyphonic synthesizer, still a prototype at the time

“Toccata”...a patra miscare din concertul nr.1 pentru pian si orchestra a lui Alberto Ginastera’s, in viziunea Emerson, Lake & Palmer...




Interpretarea are si o istorie a ei. Compozitorul argentinian Ginastera a interzis orice prelucrare dupa muzica sa. Keith nu a stiut de asta decat dupa aparitia LP-ului Brain Salad Surgery -1973, si contrariat s-a suit in primul avion ca sa stea de vorba cu autorul (pe vremea aia inca nu pilota). Ajuns la destinatie Emerson l-a gasit pe Alberto grav bolnav....I-a pus inregistrarea si a asteptat un verdict. Incapabil sa aiba vreo reactie coerenta concluzia parea sa fie ca initiativa era dezaprobata, insa sotia lui Ginaspera a explicat ca acesta era amutit de calitatea muzicii pe care o asculta.

It’s fair to say that Ginastera, who passed a decade later at 67, had never heard his work quite this way — and Emerson, at first, was horrified by what he perceived to be the great composer’s disdain.

“When it was over, he had this strange look on his face,” Emerson adds. “He looked like he was in pain! And he said something like, I can’t remember the exact words but something like ‘That is horrible!’ I thought, oh God, he hates it! And I was ready to go home. But his wife said to us: ‘No, no, no, he says diabolical in a good way, like unbelievable!’ It turns out, he was actually overwhelmed by the recording. In the end, he loved it!”

PS...exista chiar un pasaj in care Palmer utilizeaza un sintetizator ce prelucreaza sunetele tobelor...pentru prima data dupa o incercare aproximativ asemanatoare a grupului Manfred Mann's Earth Band

...totul pare foarte simplu cand dai play....dar cata munca e in spate...si ce importanta este totusi nuanta pentru care insista Emerson, iar Palmer nu o pricepe...

...dar si despre cum functiona muzica rock in acea perioada...
